Da Leone is the “new kid on the block” in Frankfurt’s fashionable Nordend district
a mere 10 minutes taxi ride from the trade-fair grounds and also very easily accessible using public transport. It is within walking distance of the Zeil and Hauptwache or financial quarter.
It is a family run affair and the successor to “kultig” Trattoria da Alberto. Many a regular visitor to Frankfurt, once having discovered, always returned to this wonderful restaurant which had its origin – as a stand-up pizzeria - in the turbulent student era of the early 70’s.
In the 90s, the premises were totally renovated and great care was taken to recreate the feel of typical trattorias and tons of stone and wood were brought in from Italy.
The new patron Enzo and his charming wife serve, in traditional rustic atmosphere – other that white starched napkins are standard – down-to-earth “casalinga” cuisine in a very Mediterranean and relaxing setting. The pastas are all made “alla mama” and the catch of the day is not from the day before yesterday. An extensive wine list – all Italian labels – leaves no wish open.
A genuine insider tip, away from the tourist trial. If good traditional cuisine at very moderate prices is what you are looking for, Da Leone will never disappoint. And in summer you may enjoy all this “al fresco” on the charming terrace.
